More Information About this Art Greeting Card and the Artist

The Love Art? card range published by Museums and Galleries in collaboration with the Art Fund comprises an exclusive collection of greeting cards of paintings from the world's greatest art galleries and museums, reproduced faithfully to the highest possible standard.

This art greeting card is reproduced from a striking flower painting by that most popular of French impressionists, Claude Monet. After establishing his home at Giverny in 1883, only once did Monet return to his earlier experiments in challenging the rigid traditions of still-life painting, otherwise prefering to compose out-of-doors from nature and only using his studio to refine these observations when driven inside by inclement weather. In 1896/97, however, he produced a small series of four pictures featuring chrysanthemums, of which this is one and it makes a beautiful greeting card to send for any occasion. It is speculated that these paintings of chrysanthemums may have been stimulated by the flower paintings of Hokusai, which he was actively collecting at the time.

This greeting card is a part of The LoveArt? range which is published by Museums & Galleries Marketing Ltd., in association with The Art Fund. The Art Fund is an independent membership charity committed to saving art for everyone to enjoy. Since 1903 Art Fund members have helped save over 850,000 works of art for museums and galleries in the UK. A 25p donation from the sale of this greeting card will be given to The Art Fund.
